Background verification for retail

Store and warehouse staff handle cash, stock and customers from their first shift, often during the busiest hiring weeks of the year. GVS confirms address and court record fast enough to keep intake on schedule.

Where retail hiring is exposed

Stock loss and till shortfalls usually trace back to someone nobody verified, hired in the week there was no time to check.

Store and warehouse shrinkage

Stock loss usually traces back to someone nobody verified. Identity and address checks establish who is actually on the floor or in the warehouse.

Cash handling

Till and counter staff handle cash from their first shift. Court record and address verification are worth having before that shift, not after a shortfall.

High attrition and rehire

Retail staff turn over quickly, and a candidate who left one store sometimes reapplies at another. Global database and previous employment checks catch what a single-store record would miss.

Seasonal peaks

Festive and peak-season hiring compresses months of intake into weeks. The verification standard does not drop because the volume goes up.

Address verification for field staff

Last-mile and delivery crew work from an address, not a store. Digital or physical address verification confirms where they actually live.

Franchise and third-party staff

Franchise-operated stores and outsourced staff wear the same uniform as direct hires. Customers do not distinguish, and the verification standard should not either.

Who gets verified

Cash access, stock access and customer contact each carry a different check, whether the person is on your payroll or a franchisee's.

01
Floor and counter staffCustomer-facing from the first shift. Identity and address confirmed before the till is assigned.
02
Cashiers and till operatorsDirect cash handling. Court record and address verification run as standard, not an exception.
03
Warehouse and stockroom staffAccess to stock without direct customer oversight. Identity and court record checks matter here as much as on the floor.
04
Store and shift managersResponsible for cash reconciliation and the staff on shift. Verified to a higher standard than the team they manage.
05
Delivery and field crewWork from an address, not a counter. Address verification, digital or physical, confirms where they can actually be reached.
06
Franchise and third-party staffOperate under your brand without being on your payroll. Verified to the same standard as a direct hire.

The check package

The checks retail employers run most, individually or as one package.

Built to scale up for peak season

Peak season does not give you extra weeks to check people. It gives you the same weeks with several times the applicants. Address and court record verification run at the same standard whichever it is.

Franchise and third-party staff go through the same process as direct hires, so a customer walking into a franchise location is meeting someone checked to your standard, not the franchisee's own.

Retail team at work

Checks run on the candidate's written consent under India's DPDP Act, collected the same way for a single hire or a seasonal batch. Franchise and third-party staff give their own consent directly to GVS, even where the franchisee handles their payroll.

Questions we get asked

Can you handle a large seasonal hiring batch?
Yes. A seasonal batch is submitted and tracked together in the portal, and every candidate in it is checked to the same standard, whatever the batch size.
What is the difference between digital and physical address verification for delivery staff?
Digital puts the capture in the candidate's hands: a geo-tagged photograph from the address itself. Physical sends a GVS associate to the door. Digital suits fast-moving delivery hiring; physical is worth adding for roles with more risk attached.
Do you verify staff at a franchise-operated store?
Yes, to the same standard as a direct hire. The franchisee can raise the case, but consent and the check itself run through GVS directly, so the record does not depend on the franchisee's own process.
Does a drug test apply to every retail role?
No. It runs only for roles you specify, typically ones with safety or handling responsibilities. It is not part of the standard package by default.
A candidate previously worked at another branch of ours and reapplied. Does that change anything?
It is worth flagging when you raise the case. Previous employment verification will confirm the earlier tenure, dates and exit status directly, which is a more complete answer than relying on whether head office remembers them.
How do you check someone who has moved several times for seasonal work?
Address verification runs on the address the candidate gives you now, current rather than permanent. Where a role justifies it, running both current and permanent address checks gives you the fuller picture.
