What an identity check confirms

Identity verification matches the name, date of birth and photograph a candidate declares against the records held by the authority that issued their documents. It is the check every other check rests on: an employment history or a court record search only means something once you know whose history you are searching.

Name

The declared name matched against the issuing authority's record, character for character.

Date of birth

Confirmed against the document record, so age-dependent roles can be cleared on evidence.

Photograph

The photograph on the document compared against the image the candidate submits.

Address on record

The address the issuing authority holds, which cross-checks the address the candidate declares.

Document status

Whether each document is active, expired or flagged at the source.

Discrepancies

Name spellings, date mismatches and duplicate records are raised as flagged findings, never quietly corrected.

Sources. UIDAI for Aadhaar, the Income Tax Department for PAN, Parivahan and Sarathi for driving licences, and the Election Commission for Voter ID. Every match is annexed with the response we received, so your auditor reads the same record we did.

Four documents, four separate sources

Run one or all four. Each is checked against its own issuing authority, so a clean result on one does not stand in for another.

Aadhaar

Name, date of birth and address against UIDAI records. Number masked in the report.

PAN

Name and active status against Income Tax Department records.

Driving Licence

Number, validity, issuing RTO and vehicle classes. Required for driving roles.

Voter ID

EPIC number and constituency against Election Commission records.

How it works

Three steps. No field visit, because the records sit with the issuing authority.

  1. 01 Consent and documents collected The candidate gives consent and uploads the documents you have asked for, through a link or the candidate portal.
  2. 02 Matched at source Each document is checked against the issuing authority's record. We capture the response, not just the verdict.
  3. 03 Result published The finding and its source response land in your dashboard, annexed to the case.

Checks that run alongside it

Questions we get asked

Which documents can GVS verify identity against?
Aadhaar, PAN, Driving Licence and Voter ID. Passport is available on request. You choose which documents a role requires. Most employers run Aadhaar and PAN as standard and add Driving Licence for roles that involve driving.
Is the Aadhaar number stored in the report?
No. The report shows only the last four digits. The full number is masked in line with UIDAI guidance and is not retained in the case file.
What happens if the name on the document does not match the CV?
It is raised as a flagged finding with both spellings shown, not silently corrected. Minor variations such as an expanded initial are common in India and are noted as such. You decide what the flag is worth.
What does the candidate have to do?
Give consent and upload the documents, through a link or the candidate portal. It takes a few minutes. GVS never charges a candidate for a check.
Is identity verification enough on its own?
No, and it is not meant to be. It establishes whose history you are about to check. Employment, education, address and court record searches only mean something once identity is settled.
How long does it take?
About an hour from the point the candidate submits documents.
