What an education check confirms

Education verification confirms a qualification with the institution that issued it, not with the certificate the candidate hands over. Certificates are the easiest document in a hiring file to fabricate, and operations selling degrees from institutions that no regulator recognises run at scale in India. A confirmation from the registrar is the only thing that settles it.

Institution and recognition

That the institution exists and that its affiliating university or board acknowledges it. Checked before anything else.

Course and specialisation

The programme the candidate actually enrolled in, against what the CV claims.

Enrolment and completion dates

Which also test the gaps and overlaps in the employment history.

Roll or registration number

Matched against the institution's own record for that cohort.

Result

Class, division, percentage or CGPA, as the institution records it.

Certificate authenticity

The certificate compared against the institution's record, including seal and signatory.

Sources. The registrar or controller of examinations at the university, board or institution, DigiLocker where the institution publishes there, and the institution's records office for older cohorts. Where an institution turns out to be unrecognised, or not to exist, that is the finding and the report states it plainly.

How it works

Four steps. Recognition is checked before the certificate, because a certificate from an unrecognised institution is not worth verifying.

What if the institution has closed?
We go to the affiliating university or the state board that held its records, which is where they end up. Where the records cannot be traced, the report says unconfirmed and shows what we tried.
How do you spot a fake university?
By checking recognition before checking the certificate. An institution that no regulator acknowledges cannot issue a degree that means anything, and that is the finding, whatever the certificate looks like.
Do you verify degrees from outside India?
Ask us before the case is raised. Coverage depends on the country and the institution, and we would rather tell you what we can confirm up front than return an unconfirmed result later.
Does the candidate need original certificates?
Clear scans are enough to start. The confirmation comes from the institution's own record, not from the document, so the document is a pointer rather than the evidence.
What about distance learning and correspondence courses?
Same check, and worth running. Recognition status varies more in distance programmes than in on-campus ones, so the recognition step carries more weight here.
What comes back in the report?
Institution and recognition status, course and specialisation, enrolment and completion dates, roll or registration number, result as the institution records it, and whether the certificate matches their record.
