What an address check confirms

Address verification checks that the address a candidate declares is one they actually occupy. It is the easiest line on a CV to borrow and the hardest to disprove from a document, because a utility bill proves someone paid a bill, not that your candidate sleeps there. GVS runs it two ways, and high-risk roles get both.

Address as found

The address as it exists on the ground, compared line by line against what the candidate declared.

Resident confirmation

Whether the candidate lives there, confirmed by a person at the address rather than by a document.

Person met

The name of whoever answered and their relationship to the candidate, recorded in the report.

Duration of stay

How long the candidate has lived at the address, and whether that matches the CV.

Geo-coordinates

Latitude and longitude captured at the address, so the visit can be placed on a map.

Photographic evidence

Photographs of the premises and the nearest landmark, annexed to the finding.

Sources. An associate from the GVS field network at the address, the person met there, and the address proof the candidate supplies. On the digital route, the candidate's geo-tagged capture and uploaded proof are reviewed by our quality team before the report is signed off.

The candidate captures the evidence themselves, from the address, with location services on.

  1. The candidate receives a link by SMS or email.
  2. They take a selfie and photographs of the premises, at the address, with GPS on.
  3. Address proof is uploaded and matched against what was captured.
  4. Our quality team checks the coordinates, the images and the document before sign-off.

Physical address verification

A GVS associate goes to the address and records what they find there.

  1. An associate covering that pincode is assigned the visit.
  2. They go to the address and speak to whoever answers.
  3. Person met, relationship, duration of stay, coordinates and photographs are recorded.
  4. The visit record is audited by our quality team before the report is published.

Questions we get asked

What is the difference between digital and physical address verification?
Digital puts the capture in the candidate's hands: they photograph the premises at the address with GPS on and upload their proof. Physical sends a GVS associate to the door, who records who answered and their relationship to the candidate. Digital is faster. Physical is the one that stands up when a role carries real risk. High-risk hires get both.
What happens if nobody is home?
The associate reattempts, and the report says how many attempts were made and on what dates. An address we could not confirm is reported as unconfirmed, with the attempt log attached. It is never reported as clear.
Is the candidate told before an associate visits?
Yes. The candidate consents to the check and knows a visit may happen. We do not run covert visits.
Do you cover small towns and villages?
Yes. The field network reaches beyond the metros. Where a pincode is remote the visit takes longer, and we give you the expected date when the case is raised rather than after it slips.
What proof comes back in the report?
Geo-coordinates, photographs of the premises and the landmark, the name of the person met and their relationship to the candidate, and the stated duration of stay. All of it annexed to the finding.
Can both current and permanent address be checked?
Yes, and for candidates who have relocated for work it is worth doing. They are separate checks, because a current-address visit tells you nothing about the family address on the candidate's documents.
