Four longer pieces. Each one started as something a client asked that we could not answer off the top of our heads, so we went and worked it out properly.
What is in here, and what is not
These are analyses, not surveys. We publish what we can show our working for.
Every piece states where its inputs came from and what it assumed. Where a figure depends on your own numbers, the piece gives you the model and lets you put your numbers in, rather than quoting a headline figure from somebody else's press release.
You will not find a discrepancy percentage or an average cost of a bad hire presented here as fact. Those numbers circulate widely, are rarely sourced, and get quoted back at buyers as though they were measured. We would rather give you a method than a number we cannot stand behind.
The four pieces
A discrepancy is not one thing. It is at least six things, and they carry completely different weight. This walks each check in turn: what a mismatch in it typically means, how often the cause is administrative rather than deliberate, and which findings are worth stopping a hire for.
