What a digital address check confirms

Digital address verification puts the capture in the candidate's hands. They open a link at their address, photograph the premises with location services on, and upload their address proof. Coordinates, timestamp and device are recorded at the moment of capture, which is what separates this from a document someone emailed in.

Latitude and longitude recorded at the moment of capture, not taken from the document.

When the capture happened and what it was taken on, both recorded with the submission.

The candidate at the address, so the capture is tied to the person and not just the place.

Sources. The candidate's own capture, the metadata recorded at the moment of capture, and the address proof uploaded. Every submission is reviewed by the GVS quality team before the report is signed off. A capture made with location services off, or one whose coordinates do not sit at the declared address, is rejected and reissued.

Questions we get asked

How is this different from asking for a utility bill?
A bill proves someone paid a bill. A geo-tagged capture proves the candidate stood at the address when they took the photograph. The coordinates, the timestamp and the device are recorded at the moment of capture, so the evidence cannot be assembled afterwards from somewhere else.
What stops a candidate faking the location?
Captures made with location services off are rejected. So are coordinates that do not sit at the declared address. Every submission is reviewed by our quality team before sign-off, and a rejected capture is reissued rather than passed.
What does the candidate actually have to do?
Open a link at their address, take a selfie and a few photographs of the premises with location on, and upload their address proof. A few minutes on a phone. GVS never charges a candidate for a check.
What if the candidate has no smartphone?
Run the physical check instead. An associate goes to the address. The two checks return the same finding by different evidence, and we will tell you which one suits your candidate pool.
Is this enough for a high-risk role?
For most roles, yes. For roles carrying cash, keys, customer premises or regulatory exposure, run the physical visit as well. The two are not substitutes.
